In the southern part of the Maremma, a Tuscan region that is relatively large and varied, lies the mountainous DOC of Montecucco, which is favored with vineyards that have volcanic soils, contributing to the wines’ depth and minerality. As winemakers continue to explore the Sangiovese-based reds that come out of this area, it is clear that the wines clearly reflect their origins, making this an exciting and dynamic emerging region.
The Giannetti family has been running Assolati for several generations and is well-versed in the traditions of the region. In addition to the winery, Assolati is also an agriturismo and farm that has in the last generation become completely self-sufficient, housing animals and growing wheat and olives. Typical for Montecucco, they offer local farm-to-table cuisine and accommodations in addition to their wines.
In 1999, following the footsteps of their parents and grandparents, daughter and son Silvia and Luca took over the operations. Raised on the farm, they developed a passion for wine. With this passion, Luca attended the University of Florence to study Agriculture and Oeneology. He applies his teachings working in the winery while Silvia works in the vineyard. With the help of friends and family, Silvia and Luca have maintained their family’s traditions and produce luscious Sangiovese wines, true to Montecucco and Tuscany.
